This Primal Babe Bone Broth is a nourishing, collagen-rich elixir that’s perfect for sipping on a chilly day or using as a base for your favorite soups and stews. Made from high-quality, grass-fed bones, simmered slowly to extract every bit of goodness, this bone broth is packed with nutrients that support your skin, gut, and overall health.
Benefits:
Bone broth is more than just a comfort food; it’s a powerhouse of nutrition. Here’s why you should make this a staple in your kitchen:
- Rich in Collagen: The slow simmering process extracts collagen from the bones, which supports healthy skin, joints, and hair, helping you maintain a youthful glow.
- Gut Health: Bone broth contains gelatin, which helps repair the gut lining and supports digestion. It’s particularly beneficial for those with leaky gut or digestive issues.
- Immune Support: Packed with amino acids like glutamine, glycine, and proline, bone broth strengthens the immune system and helps your body recover from illness.
- Joint Health: The natural glucosamine and chondroitin found in bone broth support joint health, reducing inflammation and pain, especially important for active lifestyles or as we age.
- Detoxification: Bone broth is rich in minerals that support the body’s detoxification process, helping to cleanse and nourish your body from the inside out.
This Primal Babe Bone Broth is not just a recipe; it’s a ritual of wellness that aligns with your primal roots, giving you the nutrients your body craves in a delicious, warming broth. Whether you sip it on its own or incorporate it into your meals, you’ll feel the benefits from the inside out.
Ingredients
- 2-3 pounds of bones (beef, chicken, or a mix)
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 large onion, quartered
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 3-4 garlic cloves, smashed
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
- 1 teaspoon sea salt (adjust to taste)
- Fresh herbs like parsley or thyme (optional)
- 8-10 cups of water (enough to cover the bones and vegetables)
Directions
- Prepare the Bones: If using raw bones, it’s a good idea to roast them in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 30 minutes to enhance the flavor. This step is optional but recommended.
- Add Ingredients to the Crockpot: Place the bones in the crockpot.
- Add the apple cider vinegar (this helps to extract minerals from the bones).
- Add the onion, carrots, celery, garlic, bay leaves, peppercorns, and salt.
- Pour enough water to cover the bones and vegetables.
- Cook the Broth: Cover the crockpot with the lid and set it to low.
- Cook for 24-48 hours. The longer it cooks, the more nutrients will be extracted from the bones. You can cook it for at least 12 hours if you’re short on time.
- Strain the Broth: Once the broth is done cooking, let it cool slightly. Strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl to remove the bones and vegetables. Discard the solids.
- Store the Broth: Let the broth cool completely before storing it in the refrigerator or freezer. In the refrigerator, the broth will last for up to 5 days. In the freezer, it can be stored for up to 3 months. You can use ice cube trays to freeze small portions for easy use.
- Serve: When ready to use, you can reheat the bone broth on the stove. Enjoy it as a warm, nourishing drink or use it as a base for soups and stews.
